INTERNET (H/W)

The internet, which is also known as 'Information Superhighway' is a worldwide network which transmets data by packet switching using the standard Internet Protocal (IP). The intertnet carries various information and services, Such as :-

• Electronic mail
• Online Chat
• File Transfer
• interlinked webpages
• Other resources of the world wide web

Todays internet - The internet is essentially defined by its interconnections and routing policies. As of Septemeber 30th 2007, 1.244 billion people access the internet. The internet has been traditionally called 'civil society' .

An example of interactivity which takes place on the internet is for example the wbpage 'youtube'. On this website, viewers are able to post vidoes produced from themselves, which are then able to be viewed by other people all over the world.

Compatability - This is when i piece of technology can communicate with another. For instance, A ps3 game in a ps3 console.

Storage - Something which data can be entered and held and can be retrieved by a later time.

Miniaturisation - Reducing the scale of an item.

Digital - This is a form of transmission that transforms analog signals such as speech into a series of electrical or optical pulses that represent the binary digits 0 and 1. The first step of a digital transmission is sampling the analog waveform and converting it into a stream of numerical data.

Synergy - This is a combination between towe media texts or products which share similar characteristics so that one helps market the other.

Connectivity - This allows an electronic network to send and recieve information between any locations, devices or business services.

Task 1

Portability- generally this is something which enables a characteristic to be transported from one location to another.


Convergence - This is where the lateset media technology and films have been enabled to merge together using new advances within technology


Interactivity- This relates to the new media technology which is created as it is how humans can interact using new and more convinent ways.
